EYLF at Fountain College

Fountain College has adopted the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) in our Kindergarten. The Framework aims to “extend and enrich children’s learning from birth to 5 years of age and through the transition to school.”

The 5 main outcomes in the EYLF that we aim to develop, foster, plan for and report on are:

  • Children have a strong sense of identity
  • Children are connected with and contribute to their world
  • Children have a strong sense of well being
  • Children are confident and involved learners
  • Children are effective communicators

We believe that the EYLF helps us to build a strong foundation for our young learners. All staff that teach our Kindergarten children have familiarised themselves with the EYLF and are essential elements in providing quality teaching and learning.

An integral component to the EYLF is the “view of children’s lives as characterised by belonging, being and becoming.”

  • Belonging: Knowing where, with whom you belong (family, cultural group, neighbourhood, wider community)
  • Being: right here, right now. The present. (building and maintaining relationships, enjoying every moment, meeting challenges)
  • Becoming: a reflection on the process of young peoples’ identity, knowledge, understanding, skills and relationships and how it changes during their childhood.

The educators at Fountain College foster children’s social and emotional, physical, creative, linguistic and cognitive development. We believe in play based learning and plan experiences to draw upon children’s strengths. Programs are created to include planned experiences as well as student interest topics. We recognise that the children’s families are their first educators and we strive to build strong relationships with them and involve families in their child’s learning at school.
